Room Partenope

Partenope

Parthenope was a sub-colony of the Greek, built between mount Vesuvius and the Campi Flegrei in the EIGHTH century.C. by the Cumans, a century after it was refounded as Neapolis. According to legend, the city was founded by the greeks, but from the Greek Partenope (from the Greek “virgin”), but there are multiple versions on the foundation of Naples. According to the classical myth of Homer, Odysseus was warned by the sorceress Circe of the evil power of the sirens and took him precautions: he ordered his men to put the plugs of wax in the ears and is tied to the mast of his ship, forbidding his men to untie. In this way, when he came near lake Avernus, Ulysses did not fall prey to the three sirens, Ligea, Leucosia, and Partenope, which to the disappointment of not being able to ammaliarlo with their song, committed suicide on the rocks, and their bodies were transported from the sea, so Partenope ended up on the island of Megaride, a place where today stands the Castel dell'ovo.

Small Curiosity

You don't know where could be the tomb of Partenope, if this is real or legendary, scholars and archaeologists argue that it may be on the hill of Sant'aniello a Caponapoli, under the foundations of the church of Santa Lucia, which was built on a temple dedicated to Partenope, or on the island of Megaride in the basement of the Castel dell'ovo.
